Utah travels to Cincinnati on Saturday to play its third consecutive road game.
The Utes enter the contest with an 8-0 record and a 13-game winning streak, the best in the nation. They are one of three undefeated teams in the Football Bowl Subdivision, alongside Miami and UCLA. Utah currently holds the No. 9 ranking in the College Football Playoff.
In its most recent game, Utah defeated No. 14 Houston 27-13. The Utes overcame a 10-0 deficit with a 22-yard rushing touchdown by quarterback Devon Dampier late in the third quarter. Dampier finished the game with 150 rushing yards on 15 carries. The defense sealed the victory when safety Jackson Bennee forced a fumble from Houston quarterback Conner Weigman with two minutes remaining. Utah recovered the ball, and Dampier scored the final touchdown on the next play.
Cincinnati arrives in the game with a 7-2 record after defeating the defending Big 12 champions, Texas Tech, 37-24. That victory marked a signature win for head coach Scott Satterfield in his fourth season at the university. The Bearcats now rank 10th in the Big 12 according to opponent-adjusted statistical metrics.
Statistical projections favor Utah on offense. The Utes rank 16th in offensive efficiency, while Cincinnati ranks 55th in defensive efficiency. Cincinnati’s defense has struggled recently, allowing 598 yards to West Virginia and 522 yards to Arizona. Utah’s offense, led by Dampier and wide receiver Braden Pegan, is expected to exploit these defensive gaps.
Cincinnati presents a strong offensive threat, ranking 13th in offensive efficiency. The Bearcats possess a powerful running game anchored by offensive linemen Joe Cotton, Evan Tengesdahl, and Taran Tyo. The unit ranks No. 2 in yards per carry. Utah’s defense has improved its run prevention, holding Houston to just 86 rushing yards in the previous game.
Historical trends suggest Cincinnati may struggle in this matchup. Teams that achieve an upset over an AP top 10 opponent have gone 5-7 in their following games this season. Analysts project Utah to cover the spread, citing the Utes' superior depth and the potential for a post-upset slump for Cincinnati.
The game is scheduled for 1:45 p.m. MT on Saturday and will be broadcast on ESPN.
