Marietta Parks, Recreation & Facilities opened registration for the Ugly Holiday Sweater Parade on Monday. The event is scheduled for Thursday, December 3, and serves as the opening act for the city's annual Christmas Tree Lighting celebration.
The parade began as a tradition to mark the start of the holiday season in downtown Marietta. This year's gathering will feature choir performances and meet-and-greet sessions with Santa Claus. The event concludes with the lighting of the Christmas tree in Glover Park.
Special Events Coordinator Emily Zillweger noted that participants are encouraged to wear their ugliest family-appropriate holiday sweaters. She described the parade as a festive, feel-good walk that kicks off the season in the city center.
The route covers approximately 0.4 miles. Marchers will leave Marietta City Hall at 5:00 p.m. They will travel west on Lawrence Street, loop around the Square, and finish at Glover Park via East Park Square.
Individuals, groups, organizations, businesses, and clubs may participate. Applicants must submit a completed official application to the parks department. The deadline is Friday, November 20, at 5:00 p.m.
