The Atlanta Hawks stopped a three-game skid Thursday night, beating the Cleveland Cavaliers 114-111 at State Farm Arena. The win came after three losses over the previous week.
Okongwu finished with 29 points and 7 rebounds, and he made four 3-pointers. Nickeil Alexander-Walker added 25 points. Aaron Wiggins contributed 20 points and 7 rebounds off the bench. Donovan Mitchell scored 24 points for Cleveland. James Harden added 22 for the Hawks.
Cleveland closed a 10-point deficit late. The Cavaliers ran off 12 points in two minutes to pull within 112-111 with 20.6 seconds left. Mitchell then grabbed a rebound and set up a corner 3 that would have tied the game, but the shot fell short. Lu Dort deflected the rebound to secure the win.
Alexander-Walker hit a 3-pointer to stop Cleveland's run. He later stripped the ball from Okongwu as the Cavaliers tried to push in transition. Cleveland had cut the deficit to 13 points before halftime.
McCollum scored five straight points in the third quarter to stop a run. He later set up Okongwu with a behind-the-back bounce pass for a breakaway layup.
Okongwu took over in the fourth quarter. He hit a corner 3 to extend the lead, then made a step-back jumper and a floater over Mobley. Alexander-Walker blocked a shot, and Okongwu scored again with 3.8 seconds left to finish the game.
The Hawks host the New Orleans Pelicans at 7:30 p.m. Saturday before traveling to face Cleveland on Monday.
