The Mableton Office of the Mayor is accepting applications from local artists who want to create an original poster representing the city. The selected artist will submit a design for the National Endowment for the Arts Freedom 250 City Art Poster Project. This work will be displayed at the U.S. Conference of Mayors in Washington, D.C.

Artists must submit their work by Sunday, November 1. The commission asks for original art that captures the character of Mableton. The city is one of 50 to participate in this national display.

Two community events are scheduled for Thursday, November 5. Councilwoman Keisha Jeffcoat will host a town hall for veterans, military families, and community members at The American Legion Post. City Councilman TJ Ferguson will moderate the discussion. Participants include David Jones, Chief of Staff for the Cobb Sheriff’s Office, and Dr. Que Harper. The session is designed as a safe space for men to seek community support regarding their mental well-being.

The South Cobb Regional Library will celebrate its 20th anniversary on Saturday, November 14. The party will run from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The event also marks the 10th anniversary of “1000 Words,” a project created with the South Cobb Arts Alliance. Miles Davis, a Mableton resident and artist with the alliance, will attend the celebration.

The library is also hosting a Red Cross community blood drive on Monday, November 16. The drive is scheduled from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. On Thursday, November 19, the library will offer a class on crochet basics at 4 p.m. This class responds to a recent increase in crochet popularity across the United States.
