Sarasota Memorial ranks among top 10 Florida hospitals in Newsweek list

Sarasota Memorial Hospital's main campus landed a spot on Newsweek's 2027 Best-in-State hospitals rankings, placing in the top 10 among 30 Florida hospitals on the list. The facility was the only hospital in Southwest Florida named among the 800 hospitals Newsweek and Statista Inc. recognized nationwide.

The rankings drew on mortality and patient safety indicators, recommendations from independent professionals, patient experience scores from HCAHPS surveys, and patient-reported outcome measures along with how those outcomes shape real-time care decisions.

David Verinder, chief executive of Sarasota Memorial, tied the recognition to work across the system's staff. "What really makes me proud is knowing how much work goes into earning these honors," Verinder said. "Every day, thousands of our physicians, nurses, and staff pull together to put patients first. That kind of commitment is why our community trusts us and why we keep earning national recognition."

Sarasota Memorial has collected a series of other honors during 2026. Premier Inc. and Modern Healthcare named it among the nation's 15 Top Health Systems, U.S. News & World Report issued several Best Hospital ratings, Medicare and Medicaid held the system's ratings at 5 stars, and the Leapfrog Group kept its safety grade at "A." The system also appeared on Newsweek's World's Best Hospitals list.

Newsweek said its rankings are intended to help patients compare care options. "Access to quality care often starts close to home, so local hospitals are vital for community well-being," the publication wrote, adding that hospitals serve communities "not just with excellent clinical quality and safety, but also by listening to their patients and meeting the unique needs of their area."
