Entergy Mississippi will construct a new natural gas power plant in Raymond, company officials announced during a public gathering on Thursday. The facility is designed to serve the utility’s current customer base and will operate for approximately three decades.
Jeremy Vanderloo, the company’s vice president of business operations and strategy, identified the project as the largest economic development initiative in the history of Hinds County. The total expected investment exceeds two billion dollars. Vanderloo described the facility as a Mitsubishi design, noting that the configuration is intended to be clean, safe, and highly efficient.
The project is projected to generate more than one billion dollars in property taxes over its operational life. These revenues will be distributed among the City of Raymond, Hinds County, and the Hinds County School District. Vanderloo stated that the plant is built to meet the needs of existing customers while providing reliable power to the community.
Construction is scheduled to begin in 2028 and will span roughly five years. The company expects the plant to be fully operational by the summer of 2031. The announcement was made at an open house event held for area residents.
