Georgia ran its record in Mercedes-Benz Stadium to another win Saturday, beating Florida 27-8 in a game the Bulldogs never trailed. Georgia has played at least one game in the stadium each year since it opened.
Coach Kirby Smart said playing in Atlanta suits his team's travel schedule. "If you tell me I can play in Atlanta every year for travel, we get home a lot faster, that's great," Smart said. He added that financial considerations cut both ways. "I mean, if we're gonna pay these players, we gotta make some money."
Georgia's defense held Florida to 8 points. Smart credited the plan his staff put together during the week and the work players did executing it. On turnovers, Smart said his team forced fumbles and made plays on the ball. Quinshon Judkins scored a 14-point play, and Georgia's Chris Johnson forced a fumble on a scoop-and-score, according to the game account.
Smart also spoke about player injuries. On Ellis Robinson, who is dealing with a half injury, Smart said, "I don't know if he hit his head on something. It wasn't because of anything else. But clearly, he didn't get up. That's not right. I think there was something structurally wrong." On White-Heltevoca's punt return, Smart said he did not want the player returning kicks and that the team's decision-making on that play was not right.
On Caleb Aubrey's performance, Smart said, "I think no. We're not any different than they are against everybody. That's it. It's just when we were with, we made a lot of.. it's just hunger, honestly, guys don't want to be different because of a.. " Smart declined to talk about the game's outcome after that loss, saying it's just what we've learned going forward. On playing not second with Robinson in injury-wish, Smart said, "Yeah. I don't know. Wrong we were up.. "
Georgia's next opponent and the location of that game were not in the material provided. Mercedes-Benz Stadium has hosted at least one Georgia game each year since the building opened.
