ATHENS, Ga. The University of Georgia football team defeated Florida 27-8 on Saturday at Sanford Stadium. The victory snapped a two-game losing streak and ended a 4-0 season start for the Gators. The final score was the lowest point total Florida has recorded against a top-five team this season.

The Bulldogs’ defense controlled the game, forcing four turnovers and recording four sacks. Those plays prevented the Gators from maintaining momentum. Florida quarterback DJ Ito completed only 50 percent of his passes and threw two interceptions. Georgia’s defensive line pressured the pocket consistently throughout the contest.

Offensively, Georgia relied heavily on the running game. The team accumulated 217 rushing yards. Quarterback Gunner Stockton threw for 101 yards, which is a season low for him. He did not throw a touchdown pass or run in one himself. The passing attack struggled to find rhythm against the Florida secondary.

Stockton addressed the statistical disconnect after the game. He said he does not care about his individual numbers as long as the team wins. “I don’t care,” Stockton said. “As long as we win, I literally do not care. You know, I’ll try to do my job, do it to the best of my ability, but if it’s a win, I don’t, yeah, I don’t care.”

Head coach Kirby Smart praised the effort required to secure the victory. Smart noted that the team had to fight through a challenging performance by the offense. He said the defense made plays at a critical time. “I don’t know how many times this team has to do that to get to the next level,” Smart said. “But I’m sure we’ll have to do it again and again and again.”

The win improved Georgia’s record to 5-2 on the season. The team has now beaten three of its last four opponents. The next contest is scheduled for later this month. Stockton and the offense must find a balance between the ground game and the air attack to sustain success in the latter part of the year.

The atmosphere at Sanford Stadium was electric as the Bulldogs celebrated the win. Players hugged teammates and coaches in the end zone. The result provides the program with a much-needed confidence boost heading into the final stretch of the schedule.
