Former President Barack Obama will campaign for U.S. Sen. Jon Ossoff and gubernatorial nominee Keisha Lance Bottoms in metro Atlanta on Wednesday. The afternoon event is scheduled for Morrow's Arena at Southlake. National Democrats view the rally as a push for support ahead of next week's midterms.
Ossoff is running to keep his Senate seat against U.S. Rep. Mike Collins. Collins has aligned himself closely with President Donald Trump. National Democrats consider Ossoff's seat important to maintaining their narrow margin with Republicans in the U.S. Senate.
Bottoms and Republican Rick Jackson are competing to succeed outgoing Gov. Brian Kemp. They are running to become Georgia's 84th governor. If elected, Bottoms would become the first Black female governor in the nation.
Obama's visit follows a rally by President Trump in Perry, Georgia, last week. Trump promoted Collins and other GOP candidates during that event.
Former Vice President Kamala Harris will follow Obama to Georgia. She is scheduled to hold a community town hall with NAACP President & CEO Derrick Johnson. Harris will also headline a fundraising event for the Fulton County Democrats on Friday.
Early voting in Georgia ends Friday. Election Day is Nov. 3.
