Buckeye police arrested a 23-year-old man on Thursday morning after accusing him of hiring a friend to sexually assault his fiancée.
Zarian Dyer was taken into custody at his workplace and booked on charges of aggravated assault, sexual abuse, attempted sexual assault, kidnapping, and conspiracy. The incident occurred in an Arizona home on the evening of Oct. 16, more than two weeks before Dyer’s arrest.
Bella Torres told officers that an unknown man broke into her house while she was home with her children. Torres fought off the intruder, identified as 20-year-old Adrian Ayala, who fled the scene. Police caught Ayala the next day at his residence in the Goodyear neighborhood.
Home security footage captured Ayala speaking to Torres during the attack. In the recording, he claimed that her partner had arranged for him to assault her through a deal made on Reddit. Ayala’s attorney repeated this claim in court, and detectives found supporting communications on phones belonging to both men. Buckeye Police spokesperson Carissa Planalp stated that the messages outlined the plan for the attack.
Prosecutors allege that Dyer instructed Ayala to attack Torres while she was alone and to FaceTime him during the encounter. Police have not yet determined the full motive for the arrangement.
Dyer remains in custody as the investigation continues into the specific details of the online arrangement that led to the break-in.
