Pakistan’s One-Day International campaign against England looked lost on Sunday night in Lahore, but a final-wicket surge turned the match on its head. The hosts needed 88 runs to win but fell to 154 for nine, leaving 87 required to beat England’s total of 241.

Shadab Khan and Haris Rauf batted together to chase down the target. Khan remained unbeaten on 113 from 96 balls, while Rauf added 7 from 19. Their partnership set a new record for the highest last-wicket stand in a successful run chase in ODI history. The victory gave Pakistan a one-wicket win and a place in the series final.

England’s innings had been anchored by Ben Duckett, who scored 105 off 111 balls for his fifth ODI century. Arafat Minhas dismissed Duckett to trigger a collapse in the English batting order. Shaheen Afridi took four wickets for 46 runs, and England finished at 241 all out in 46.4 overs.

Pakistan’s chase began poorly after Jamie Overton took three wickets for 43 and Liam Dawson took two for 19. The hosts lost Fakhar Zaman, Saim Ayub, Babar Azam, and Saad Baig cheaply. The team had been 74 for three before sliding to 154 for nine. The home crowd at Gaddafi Stadium began to leave after the ninth wicket fell, believing England had secured the result.

Shadab Khan reversed the momentum after a leg-before-wicket decision was overturned on review. He accelerated his scoring to finish the match. In a post-match statement, the 28-year-old dedicated the win to his mother and wife. He also credited Rauf for the partnership, noting that the team wins only together.

Pakistan captain Shaheen Afridi said the selection of Shadab was based on the team’s need for variation. "We need top-order runs; we’re struggling," Afridi said. "I hope in the next few games we’ll bring that energy." He added that the team would celebrate that night but return to work the next day.

English commentator Nasser Hussain called the chase incredible, praising Shadab’s change in intent. Hussain noted that Shadab decided to play his shots after the initial approach failed. Former Pakistan captain Mohammad Yousuf described the display as fearless and aggressive, while Sri Lankan cricketer Angelo Mathews said Shadab won it for Pakistan out of nowhere.
