Audi is planning a potential second phase for its new Middle Georgia auto factory, according to internal documents reviewed by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The expansion would add $3 billion in investment and create 3,000 additional jobs on top of the original announcement.

The German automaker officially unveiled the initial $4 billion plant in October 2025. That first phase is expected to employ 4,500 workers at a site in Middle Georgia. If Audi proceeds with the second phase, the total project value reaches $7 billion, making it one of the largest industrial recruitments in the state's history.

Audi America stated in a statement that the second phase remains a proposal and is not yet a final decision. The company noted that local leaders, including the Middle Georgia Development Authority, have expressed strong support for the expansion. The authority's board voted to approve the project as a normal part of its process.

The site is located near Interstate 16 and State Route 16 in Middle Georgia. The facility will produce electric vehicles and components. Infrastructure improvements are also planned, including a $1.4 million investment by the Georgia Department of Transportation for road and utility upgrades.

The Georgia Department of Economic Development is offering incentives to both phases. For the first phase, the state is providing a $521,500 annual tax abatement for 10 years. If the second phase moves forward, the state would add another $320,000 annually. The total state tax abatement could reach $7.8 million over a decade.

Audi currently operates a quick systems technology center in Georgia and has already recruited 2,500 workers statewide. The company expects to hire 1,000 more by 2026. A full production facility would generate higher average wages, estimated at $63,000 annually, compared to the current average of $42,700 for company employees in the state.

Local officials in Middle Georgia have lobbied for the project, citing the need for high-paying jobs in the region. The development authority expects the plant to anchor a new industrial corridor. Audi has not set a start date for the second phase, but internal memos suggest a decision could be made as early as 2028.
