A teenager is in custody after deputies say he fired a gun at his girlfriend's father during a confrontation in Covington.
Newton County Sheriff's Office deputies arrived at a home on White Birch Road around 6 p.m. Tuesday after a call reporting a domestic-related aggravated assault. Investigators with the Criminal Investigations Division later determined that Hunter King, 19, of Covington, had shot at 47-year-old Richard Powell of Monticello, the father of King's girlfriend. Powell was hurt in the gunfire but remained alert and declined medical treatment. Deputies arrested King at the scene. The Sheriff's Office has not released information about what prompted the dispute before shots were fired, and investigators have not said whether any children were physically hurt.
King faces charges of aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, and two counts of third-degree cruelty to children.
