Florida head coach Jon Sumrall drew a sideline interference penalty in the second quarter of Saturday's 27-8 loss to Georgia after moving onto the field. Georgia cornerback Demello Jones intercepted a pass from Florida quarterback Aaron Philo, and Sumrall stood on the grass as the play unfolded.

Sumrall, who played middle linebacker at Kentucky from 2002 to 2004, said he was ready to make the tackle himself. "Head coach is a dumbass, I wanted to run out and make the freaking tackle is what I wanted to do, quite honestly," Sumrall said when asked about the penalty. "I was on the grass. I saw the official run down the field. The field judge was coming down the sideline, and instead of walking back in the white, I just stayed in the grass and was ready to go tackle the guy."

Florida entered the game ranked No. 7 with a 5-3 record and a 3-1 mark in SEC play. Georgia, ranked No. 3, improved to 7-1 overall and 5-1 in the conference. Philo threw two interceptions before Florida's first four possessions ended, and the Gators did not record a first down on those series.

The Gators' next possession ended when Florida's secondary allowed a long completion. Florida's defense gave up a 62-yard gain on a pass play that set up a Georgia score. Georgia's Tyler Starks threw a touchdown pass in the third quarter, and Florida's defense allowed a 48-yard pass completion in the fourth quarter.

Sumrall, Florida's first-year head coach, said the team's execution did not meet its standards. "I don't think either of us can fully evaluate the game for what it was, because both of us were bad around that and I don't think either of us can do anything about it," Sumrall said. He also said he could not fully assess the play after the interception because of the penalty.

Florida's next game is scheduled for next week. Sumrall said he was not ready to name a starting quarterback. Florida's quarterback Bailey Stockton, a transfer from Princeton School, has started games this season. Sumrall said he would not name a starting quarterback for the next game.
