The Atlanta Dream travel to San Francisco on Saturday for a Game 7 matchup against the Golden State Valkyries. The Dream must win the series to claim the WNBA championship.
The contest will be played at Chase Center, a venue that Golden State fans have nicknamed Ballhalla. The name references the Norse mythological hall of slain warriors, a setting where Odin presides over daily combat.
The Dream enter the final game as the team that has overcome the Valkyries in the most recent meetings. Atlanta won the regular-season finale at home against Golden State. The Valkyries won the first two games of this playoff series at their own facility.
Golden State holds a 79-49 record for the season. The Valkyries have finished second or better in their division for the past three years. The Dream finished the regular season with a 68-50 record.
The Valkyries led the series 2-1 after winning Game 4 at home. The Dream took Game 5 in Atlanta to force a sixth game. Game 6 ended with a Golden State victory, sending the series to a decisive seventh game.
Atlanta coach Dawn Staley noted that the team has handled pressure well. She said the players are not just loving the moment but also feeling good about how they have approached each contest.
Staley emphasized that the Dream are not a team that wants to understand the odds. She stated that the goal is simply to win the game in front of them.
Golden State coach Mike Boyle said the team knows it has to play well to win. He noted that the Dream have shown they can win on the road. Boyle said the Valkyries must execute their game plan to secure the title.
The Dream have a 2-1 record in their last three games against Golden State. The Valkyries have won two of their last four home playoff games. The series is tied at 3-3 heading into Saturday.
The game will be held at Chase Center in San Francisco. The Dream must win to end their season as WNBA champions.
