Bucs Set 324-Yard Rushing Record in 16-0 Win Over Falcons
Tampa Bay broke the franchise rushing record while completing zero passes, marking a historic offensive anomaly in NFL history.

Cobb County residents following the Atlanta Falcons learned this week that their team suffered a 16-0 defeat on Sunday at Tampa Bay. The loss featured a statistical anomaly that has not been seen in the league for decades. Tampa Bay quarterback Baker Mayfield completed zero passes during the entire contest. According to ESPN and NFL research, no team had won a game with zero completions since 1974. No team had achieved that feat while winning by double digits since 1945.
The Buccaneers relied entirely on their ground game to secure the victory. The team recorded 324 total rushing yards, which stands as the highest single-game total in franchise history. This offensive output included career highs for two different running backs. Bucky Irving carried the ball for 170 yards, while Kenneth Gainwell added 140 yards. The pair became only the second duo in franchise history to both rush for 100 or more yards in the same game. The previous instance involved Warrick Dunn and Mike Alstott.
The Falcons offense struggled to find a rhythm against the Tampa Bay defense. Quarterback Michael Penix threw four interceptions, which accounted for one pick for every six pass attempts. Penix had previously thrown just one interception on the season, which occurred in his debut against Green Bay more than a month ago. The team also failed to convert a single third down, finishing the game with a 0-for-12 record in that category. Penix acknowledged the difficulty of the performance to reporters after the game.
Penix noted that family members were present in the stands to watch the game. He described the performance as one he had never experienced in his life, stating that it kind of sucked for them to witness it. Despite the loss, he said the team is going to shake it back. The Falcons entered the contest with the fourth-best rush defense in the NFL. However, the defense could not prevent Tampa Bay from setting its rushing record.
Jessie Bates III provided a defensive highlight in the first quarter when he punched a touchdown attempt out of bounds. Bates described the first half as the craziest game he has been part of. The Falcons will face the Cincinnati Bengals in Madrid on Sunday. Pass rusher James Pearce Jr. is expected to return from suspension for that matchup.
The loss extends a stretch of inconsistent results for the Atlanta squad. The statistical oddity of the game, specifically the zero completions from the winning team, remains a rare occurrence in the modern era of the league. The Buccaneers will continue their season following this record-setting performance.
