Seattle-Tacoma International Airport saw an unusual item pass through the security checkpoint this week when Transportation Security Administration officers stopped a bag containing sharp, claw-shaped blades.
TSA officer Douglas Linn identified the suspicious object while reviewing X-ray images. He told the agency that he saw three blades with distinct claw-like features. Linn, who has worked for the TSA for two years, said he was amazed when the item came out of the bag and noted he had never seen anything like it in his time there.
Property search officer Dennis Oishi conducted a physical search of the bag and confirmed the prohibited item. The item resembled a mix of Wolverine-style claws and Freddy Krueger blades. Oishi handled the situation during standard checkpoint operations.
The passenger realized what was in the bag once Oishi removed the items. The traveler voluntarily abandoned the blades at the checkpoint. Responding supervisory officer Ann Rhoades said she had worked for the TSA for seven years and this was one of the most unusual items she had encountered.
Rhoades recalled that Oishi asked the passenger if there was anything sharp in the bag. The man said he was not sure. Rhoades noted that obviously, there was.
