Cobb County residents arrived at their assigned polling places on Monday to vote in the Georgia midterm elections.
This year's advance voting period saw a sharp increase in participation compared to the previous cycle. County elections officials reported that 227,308 ballots were cast during the three-week advance window. That figure represents an unofficial gain of 45,922 ballots over the 181,386 recorded in the 2022 midterms. The increase equates to a 25 percent rise in advance voting activity.
Election Day voting required citizens to go to their specific precincts. Voters used the state My Voter Page tool to locate their sites, review sample ballots, and confirm registration status. Officials noted that voters needed to present an accepted photo ID to cast their ballots. Acceptable forms include a Georgia driver's license, state ID, U.S. passport, or military photo ID. Precinct cards were not required for voters who met the registration deadline.
The ballot featured two major statewide races for governor and U.S. Senate. Cobb County voters also decided races for lieutenant governor, attorney general, and secretary of state. Local contests included seats in the Georgia House and Senate. Additionally, voters chose two new county commissioners and three school board members.
Polling stations remained open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Election Day. Election officials stated that anyone already in line by the 7 p.m. cutoff could finish voting. The county will certify the final results next week.
