Sen. Jon Ossoff won a second term in the U.S. Senate on Nov. 3.
The election resulted in a sweep of key races for the Democratic Party across the country.
Ossoff, D-Ga., addressed supporters after securing his victory.
“Tonight in Georgia we’ve proven not just that unity is possible, but that we can overcome division without sacrificing clarity of purpose,” he said.
He described the campaign’s focus on banning corporate and secret money from politics.
Ossoff also cited American leadership for peace and human rights as a key goal.
He stated the campaign urged a guarantee of healthcare for every American.
Other Democratic figures mentioned for the 2028 presidential race include Gov. Wes Moore of Maryland.
Gov. JB Pritzker of Illinois and Gov. Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania are also being discussed.
Republican Vice President JD Vance posted on social media about the midterm results.
“The reason we lost is the war. The president himself said so last night,” Vance wrote.
Donald Trump, Jr., shared Vance’s post shortly after it was published online. President Donald Trump was asked about the post on election night. He declined to endorse any specific candidate for the 2028 cycle. “You’re going to have a lot of people, maybe a lot of people are running,” Trump said. He added that perhaps nobody would run or that Vance might not run. Rep. Greg Steube, a Republican from Florida, blamed GOP leadership for the losses on election night. He sought to adapt to the shifting political climate. Former Rep. Harold Ford, a Democrat, announced the creation of an exploratory committee before Tuesday. The committee will look at a possible run for the White House. These early moves mark the beginning of the 2028 presidential campaign.
